Guitar for Kids – Better than Piano Lessons?

As a parent, you would like to give your child as much as you could afford. These things include good health, proper education, healthy environment, and everything else that could contribute to his wellbeing. Along with the material needs you provide for your child, giving opportunities to explore creativity should not be optional. Watching your child develop new skills such as painting or playing the guitar are some of the best, most joyful moments in life?

Speaking of guitar lessons or any other musical instrument lessons for this matter, they are a proven beneficial way to  enrich the development of a child. Most guitar lessons for beginners courses are suitable for children to learn to play the guitar. Learning to create art or play an instrument boosts a child’s coordination skills, increases mathematical ability, enhances thinking and concentration, develops talents and skills, and a endues a person with a healthy sense of self-confidence and self-esteem. There is no doubt as to the advantages of learning to play a musical instrument.

In selecting a musical instrument for your child, one must take into consideration these circumstances: cost, size, convenience, and availability. Sometimes a younger child (say 11 or 12) doesn’t have big enough fingers to play the piano well – they may do better with a smaller sized guitar (child sized) to learn an instrument. If you can afford a piano (and have room in the house for one) it is an excellent thing for a kid to learn to play! But if you feel you can’t invest what is needed with other types of lessons such as piano lessons due to the aforementioned factors, the best choice for your child would be a guitar lessons course.

With the many choices of musical instruments, why would the guitar be a good choice? Budget-wise, guitars are not as expensive as other musical instruments, such as violin saxophone or piano. As your child gains knowledge and experience with their music skills, they will have those to develop as they grow up. It’s easy to tune a guitar yourself, but pianos require a professional piano tuner - also guitars are easy to carry and don’t take up a lot of space in your home.

A great reason to choose guitar over piano is their portability. Kids love exploration and new things and they like being able to share what they’ve learned. Practicing the guitar is easy to do just about anywhere - either alone in a bedroom or the family room - or with a friend who is also learning to play an instrument. This is not possible with a piano, which is huge and bulky, not to mention the fact that it takes up a lot of space inside the house.

There are a variety of ways to learn to play the guitar such as local music teachers or online videos. There are also several good guitar lesson DVDs for your child to learn from. Kids tend to like watching videos to learn and they can learn new things quickly. Guitar lessons may be easier to learn with videos and DVDs than piano lessons. Another way that parents can make sure their child gets the most out of learning to play the guitar is to purchase a teacher’s version of a training course which has a lesson plan so the parent will be able know whether their child is learning what they should be. The lessons that provide teacher and student workbooks are great for homeschooling or for parents to track their child’s guitar learning progress.

Most kids are inpired to learn to play the guitar because of the many celebrity musicians they know about and idolize. As kids are able to learn about music, chords and timing (and even how to read musical notes) with the guitar, many later want to learn to play the piano – they will be better able to learn a second instrument having mastered one.

Kids who have multiple areas of interest that they can develop make for wholer, happier adults. Every parent hopes for their child to live a fulfilling life. So give your child the gift of music with kids’ guitar lessons. You might find your child has some musical talent that you would not have known about - it’s up to you to help them get started learning to play a musical instrument.

Tips For Buying A Saxophone

saxophone lessons

The saxophone is a sophisticated instrument that requires a few measures to consider before choosing or purchasing this type of instrument. Saxophones come in different varieties and a hundred types to choose from. Some tips below are given and you might consider these factors or methods to help you choose the proper type of saxophone:

1 Know the kinds of Saxophones. Before you go buy a musical instrument like the saxophone, you must first know what the kinds of these instruments are. Take a look at the brands of the saxophone and have a background research about the performance of the instrument that specific brand offers. You can also ask sax players for their preferences and opinions about the best instruments around.

2 Know the parts of the Saxophone. Before purchasing a saxophone, you must examine each component of the saxophone, whatever brand it is, and inspect them for damages or defects. You will need to have a working knowledge of the parts of the saxophone for you to be able to do this effectively and accurately. The individual parts will naturally have different functions to make the saxophone work as a whole instrument. Make sure you check that each of these parts are working in tip-top shape.

3 Saxophone Price check. When buying saxophone, pick the best quality with the best value for your money. Make sure that you go to many different musical instrument stores to check out their stocks and prices. Even if you already have an idea of the brand of saxophone you want to purchase, you still will be better advised to canvass the price from different stores. A saxophone is a very expensive instrument. Finding the right saxophone at the right price is prudent because of its very expensive nature.

4 There is the option to buy a used saxophone. Generally, It is good practice to buy a brand new saxophone instead of buying a used instrument, with uncertain condition. You are more guaranteed that when you purchase a brand new sax, you are assured of the cleanliness, the durability, and the performance of the instrument but it will definitely cost you more. When the fund is not enough you might consider purchasing a used sax.

Used or secondhand instruments must first be thoroughly inspected for damages and deformities to avoid dissatisfaction or regret at a later time. First of all, make sure to try playing the instrument if everything works. As soon as all these mini steps are done you may now decide to buy the instrument or not.

5 Take someone who knows saxophones. Find someone who can accompany you while you go around finding your saxophone. Someone with knowledge and experience with saxophones will be ideal. Ask him some tips and factors to consider before you would purchase the instrument. It is very helpful to have someone share your ideas and thoughts about the instrument.

If the tips are properly taken into consideration, you will surely be able to find yourself the best saxophone.

The Making Of A Guitar, History And Art

How many times have you wondered how a guitar was made or what it was made from?.  Guitar making is an art and a science. The guitar has always been made from wood but these days composite material also plays a role. The metal parts of the guitar also have progressed to a very sophisticated level. The making of a guitar has not changed very much over many centuries. The entire world contributes to the guitars we have today in the woods that come from these countries.

Maple is the most often used material for the guitar neck as the wood must be very hard. Before the truss rod was used in guitars it was even more important to have a hard wood for the neck of the guitar.

Rosewod and maple are used for the guitar neck as well. A lifetime of use can be had from the wearing of these woods. Fret boards can also be planed as they wear to produce an even surface and allowing them to last even longer.

For many years the tuning pegs of a guitar were exactly that, a wooden peg with the string wrapped around it. With modern machine heads, as they are called, much finer tuning adjustments are possible. Bridges are also adjustable now as well. Together these two items have made it so you can tune a guitar and it will stay in tune. The guitar tuner is also a large contributing factor that allows guitar players everywhere to be in tune all the time.

The invention of the electrical pickup changed the course of history for all guitar players. At the beginning the electrical pickup was a very crude instrument if you will. From the simple beginnings of the pickup came the electric solid body guitar of today. The pickup now allowed the guitar to be used in situations it could never have been heard prior to this, such as with a drummer. The pickup altered the guitar forever.

Even though the materials and technology have changed, the guitar remains much the same as it has from the beginning.

Martin Guitars - The Story

The C. F. Martin guitar company has been making guitars since 1833. Presently headquartered in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, the company is still run by a member of the Martin family. Chris Martin IV, who is the chairman and CEO, is the great-great-great-grandson of Christian Frederick Martin who started the company.

C. F. Martin was a member of the cabinet maker’s guild in Germany. In Europe during the 1800s the guilds were powerful trade unions that controlled the production of goods and services by controlling the entry of tradesmen and craftsmen into the guild. Each guild had their own trades or goods. But The Violin Maker's Guild Began To Assert Their Right To Control The Making Of Guitars, Which Martin, As A Member Of The Cabinet Maker's Guild, Had Learned To Make - The Story.

Whether this is the sole reason or not, Martin moved to the United States, eventually settling in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. There he began to make guitars.

Martin’s acoustic guitars quickly earned a reputation quality musical instruments. Martin’s innovative x-brace design which used scalloped bracing, improved the resonance. By strengthening the guitar it also protected the top of the guitar from warping. The Martin is still largely made by hand. Skilled artisans craft the instrument with techniques that transcend some aspects of automatic machines. Each Martin guitar is essentially a unique work of art.

Martin has made electric and bass guitars, but is primarily known for its acoustic guitars.

Martins made before World War II developed a reputation as a superior sounding instrument. These pre-war Martins typically fetch a high price from collectors and guitarists.

The list of artists who use or have used Martin guitars is extensive. One of Martin’s many contribution to guitar making enhances the desirability of the guitars which are especially prized by folk and bluegrass musicians. Martin made a guitar with a larger body, called the dreadnought. Acoustic musicians utilize this larger body effectively to project more sound.

Martin guitars continue to top wish lists of many guitarists today. And used Martins are still sought for their durability, high quality, and sound.

Type Of This Fender Bullet Electric Guitar Features A 21-fret Maple Neck With A Rosewood Fingerboard And Chrome Covered Tuners. Three Single-coil Pickups, A Hardtail Bridge And Five-way Switching.

No matter how good the quality, no recording will make the amplifier sound the way it does in person. The first type is a solid state amplifier. More often than not these are the cheapest amps you’ll find. Some people even say they can’t listen to playing through a solid state amp for too long, otherwise they get a headache.
There is one solid state amp that I DO like; it’s the Randall RG100ES from the 80’s. It’s a pretty wicked amp for heavy metal or heavy rock tunes. You’ll hear it all over Pantera records (”Dimebag” Darrell was a huge fan of solid state Randall stuff), some Def Leppard and Michael Angelo Batio’s stuff. The second type of amp is all that digital modeling business… you have to be super careful when buying this stuff. Some of the digital products out there sound way too digital - Line 6’s Spider 1 through 3 are a good example. They just don’t sound natural.
On the practice side of things, it makes sense that it would be a better choice… you get multiple amp models and multiple effects for roughly the same price as a solid state amp. If you’re lookin’ into digital stuff I’d recommend checking out the Roland Cube - she’s a nice little practice guitar amp.

The Beatles are back: In computer game form

Arguably the most famous band on the scene, The Beatles are set to re-release a vast amount of their music backlog accompanied by a bran new computer game. The eagerly anticipated new game entitled "The Beatles: Rockband" is released on the 9th of September.
On the video game you can also see many visual simulations of The Beatles performing a mix of their most famous songs at some of the greatest venues in the country. This coincides perfectly with their record label EMI’s scheduled release of 14 of their new digitally enhanced albums which will available in early 2010. Additionally, from October 19th owners of the video game will be able to download the whole Abbey Road album either through their XBOX or PS3 for about £10. Or alternatively, you can download them individually for about 99p each. I think this is part of a master plan to get the Beatles back into the scene and apply their music to a younger demographic. There is no doubt that these new CD’s will sell like hotcakes in the shops and I bet EMI are licking their lips!
I am personally a massive fan of the Beatles. I am interested to hear how they have re-mastered their tracks. I do hope they have not laid digital pianos over their grand pianos or added a hoard of electric guitars to replace the older sound. Plans on how to get the Beatles’ back catalogue implemented into the digital world has been widely discussed between all the parties involved. The various record companies involved will also be selling the infamous album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band for sale in November which is bound to be a massive with fans all over the world!
You can watch game play trailers and get more information at The Beatles: Rock Band official website. By the time you have read this article the game would of already been released! I for one will definitely be making a purchase!

Acoustic Beginners Guitar - Choosing your first acoustic guitar

Before you purchase an acoustic beginners guitar, there are few thing to remember. If you are able to afford a high-quality guitar, by all means indulge yourself and get it. The price tag may be higher but you will find that the quality will be reflected in the ease of playing and in the tone of the guitar as well.

If you’re looking for a high-end acoustic beginners guitar, the Seagull S6 makes a fine acoustic beginners guitar of high quality, that plays well enough to take a novice guitar player well into advanced technique. It is priced in the 0-500 range.Definitely pricier than what a beginner might want to spend, but the exceptional quality well justifies the price. Even professionals often keep their Seagull S6 after they’ve purchased many other guitars. Also in this price range is the Washburn D10S|Another high-end acoustic beginners guitar to consider is the Washburn D10S. This instrument was ranked as #1 by Acoustic Guitar Magazine in a comparison of guitars under 0. Most people looking in this price range will end up choosing the Washburn or the Seagull.

There are several good choices priced lower for acoustic beginners guitar players including the Yamaha F310, Takamine G-240 and Fender DG7. But in terms of price, the most affordable for the beginner is the Epiphone DR-100. You will have to switch to a more advanced instrument down the road, since it is only meant for rookies, but you will get a really good buy for somewhere between 0 and 0.

Even if you are on a budget, you should try to avoid buying the under 0  guitars you can find at local discount stores. Even an experienced player would have trouble with these.A cheaper made acoustic beginners guitar is just not made well and usually have really high action, meaning there is more space between the strings and the fingerboard than the more expensive guitars. A cheap guitar is frustrating and not fun to play, so buy a good quality acoustic beginners guitar.

If you were planning on spending around 0 or less, a second hand acoustic beginners guitar is a good option. Each secondhand guitar seems to have its own set of quirks. Take for example, two second hand Yamaha F310’s. Try them both out as they will likely have distinctly different sounds. These sounds may even give you some insight on the personality of who owned the guitar before.

People say you should never buy a guitar from someone who’s a jerk. And while there may not actually be any esoteric elements inherent to the personality of a guitar, the way people treat their guitars tends to be a reflection of the way they treat people. A guitar that is been cared for and treated properly is going to play better than one that has not. If an acoustic beginners guitar you are trying feels a bit off for any reason, go on to the next one.

If you are a beginner and can’t play worth a dime, ask the store associate to play the acoustic beginners guitar you are considering buying. An experienced salesperson will know that you, as a beginner, may not know how to play, but you know what you want a guitar to sound like once you have learned. Who knows, maybe they will be assisting the next great acoustic guitar player!
