A History of Subliminal Songs

Any search online will bring up a multitude of subliminal songs. i.e. songs with subliminal messages in them.

You can find anything from classics such as the Led Zeppelin stairway to heaven subliminal messages to the modern popstarts such as Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Justin Timberlake using them.

There is quite a strong debate whether artists intentionally put subliminal messages in their music or not. Most musicians straight out deny using them. However when you watch some of these music videos or listen to the songs in reverse there are some pretty clear subliminal messages which can be heard. Messages which sound just too clear to be a coincidence.

The craze for recording / finding subliminal messages in songs started way back in 1967 with the release of Led Zeppelins track “Stairway to Heaven” Within this video there were alleged to be subliminal messages around the chorus section where the line starts “so there's a bushell in your hedgerow”. People played the track backwards to reveal a suggestion of “Here's to my Sweet Satan”. This caused public outcry, and condemnation from the church – of course Led Zep denied everything.

But the denial was irrelevant, phenomenon of subliminal backmasking in songs was created!

People started looking for messages, while more artists started putting them in their music. Subliminals have since been found in:

Britney Spears – telling people “sleep with me I’m not too young” in her first single.

Nirvana – saying “I hate you” in Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Tupac – hinting that he is still alive.

Queen – promoting the use of Marijuana.

Lady Gaga – saying “have sex” in her "just dance" - her very first debut single.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, musicians have been doing this for nearly 40 years! There are countless examples from across all genres, and practically all famous popstars! To watch all these videos and more visit our subliminal video blog and view the entire subliminal songs collection.
